Glass Mountain resumed its reading series this past Tuesday, February 16th, with the first reading of the semester. It featured poets Gerald Smith and Erika Jo Brown (a grad student in the creative writing program at UH) and fiction writer Barrett White. We had a great turn-out in a new venue, the second floor lobby of Roy Cullen. The audience enjoyed snacks and drinks and another quiz and raffle.

If you missed this first event, have no fear! Our next reading will be on March 23rd. The venue hasn’t been set yet, but it will start at 7pm, so mark it on your calendar so you can make it out!

Remember, we are still accepting submissions, and will be until March 4th. Volume 16 is a themed issue, with the theme of growth, so if you have anything that can be interpreted to fit that theme, we’d love to see it! We are looking for your poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, art, and reviews. Go here to submit.

We are also taking registrations for our Boldface Writer’s Conference that will be taking place in May. This is a unique experience for emerging writers. It is a week of craft talks, lectures, workshops, readings, and possible private consultations with our visiting writers. For more information, go to www.boldfaceconference.wordpress.com. The early bird rate ends the night of our second reading (March 23rd), so get those registrations in ASAP, and we look forward to seeing you there!

In addition to our readings, Glass Mountain will be participating in events taking place off campus. Our first appearance off-campus will be at this Saturday’s Writefest literary journal fair, hosted by Writespace at Silver Street Studios in Houston. Stop by our table between 1-5pm Saturday to check our newest volumes of Glass Mountain as well as pick up information about Boldface and submitting. And while you’re there, you can check out the panels and presentations about everything writer’s craft. It’s also a great way to immerse yourself in the literary goings-on in Houston!

As always, keep checking this blog for information on those as well as the activities of our dear magazine. 🙂
