Write, write, write, and write some more! (and maybe win some prizes)

Write-A-Thon is almost here!

…she proclaimed, bicycling down the street at top speed, streamers flying.

Hopefully, you’ll come up with a better opening line to your work when you come join us this Saturday for our Write-A-Thon, the annual fundraiser for our Boldface Writing Conference. And we know you’ll want to join us because who wouldn’t want to participate in writing contests and raffles while enjoying tasty morsels as well as the company of fellow writers?

Ok, you got me. What do I have to do to participate?

Easy question, friend – just show up! We’d (greatly) appreciate it if you could shoot us an email at glassmountaineditors@gmail.com. This not only lets us know to expect you, but it gives us a chance to give you more materials to prepare for that day.

So what exactly do I do?

Well, you know how during a marathon, people run? For a write-a-thon, you write! Round up some sponsors before you arrive to donate to Glass Mountain for the Boldface conference. These sponsors could give by word count or hour, or just give a one-time donation for the day. Any little bit helps add to our funds and keeps costs down for students to attend the amazing conference that is Boldface. No sponsor? No problem! We’ll also be calling for funds at the event, so you can ask for funds then as well. Besides the fundraising, we’ll be holding writing contests throughout the day. You can write in those contests to win prizes or work on your own personal projects.

Do I have to stay all day?

We’d love you to, but we’ll admit that no, you don’t have to. You can stay for one hour or all nine. You can pop in in the morning and again in the afternoon. However you can fit us into your schedule for this Saturday works fine for us.

Is there an entrance fee?

Of course not! Keep in mind that this is a fundraiser – for a very good cause, we might add. So, anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. But if you’d just like to come for the experience and for an opportunity to get some writing done, you’re more than welcome to!

Wait, what are these prizes to which you refer?

All sorts of good stuff, including books from UH faculty and visiting authors to Houston, gift certificates to bookstores and restaurants, and gift baskets from Trader Joe’s and Gulf Coast. These can be won through the writing contests OR raffles throughout the day. Plus, breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided.

Where is this all happening?

Right here! That’s the Classroom and Business Building, right behind the Student Center North. We’ll be in room 238.
