Jailyne España
Ceramic
Jailyne España is a 3rd year art student at the University of Houston, Fine Arts Major with a concentration in painting. España strives to bring awareness to the undiscussed subject of cancer in female patients through her artwork. As a female artist and a cancer survivor, Jailyne also uses her art as a way to reclaim the pain that cancer brings by turning it into something that empowers these female patients and survivors. She takes inspiration from the human body and the grotesque aspect of deteriorating anatomy. Jailyne has had her first solo exhibition at the early age of 20 years-old. This exhibition titled “Survivor’s Dream” was displayed at the Texas Children’s Hospital BMT Unit from May 28th, 2018 to June 8th, 2018. She has also had her self-portrait piece titled “Jailyne” displayed at the “Making A Mark” art exhibition at Texas Children’s Hospital, an exhibition of art by children touched by cancer and blood disorders. This piece is currently being displayed at the International William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, Tx.
