Dear readers,
I’ve had the honor of introducing an issue of Glass Mountain three times now. Each time, I’m stunned by the creativity and drive that exists within our world. Each time, this introduction has been the catalyst of a minor breakdown. I hoped that by now, writing this letter would come easier. Unfortunately, unsurprisingly, it has not. Alas.
For us still in the throes of degree-hunting, the end is near. Finals, winter break. The holidays are approaching. This is a time of year that can threaten even the best of us. Family drama, ice and snow, the ever-present dread of the winter season, it can all crescendo. But, if nothing else, there’s always someone to struggle alongside you. This someone might be found in poetry, short fiction, novels, TV shows. Perhaps they’re trapped in a god-awful film adaptation of a timeless classic. Or, they’re outside in a Best Buy line at 4am on Black Friday.
I urge you to check out the pieces found in this edition and soak in the character of it all. Find a voice to follow. Commiserate, if it calls to you. Celebrate, mostly. We’ve made it this far, and we shall persist.
I sincerely thank the artists who were brave enough to submit to our wonderful magazine. It takes incredible bravery and vulnerability to put a brainchild out into the world, and we’re honored to have your work exist with us.
Without further ado, I’m proud to offer up issue #35 of Glass Mountain. Sincerely, enjoy.
With all my love,
Leontine Coombs
