When I began working on Glass Mountain in 2016, I didn’t know I would spend the next two years—it’s only been two years?—working on a magazine that would shape the person I’ve become. That spring, I attended my first reading, going above and beyond to impress my new editors by “perfectly” plating the cookies, diligently applauding the featured readers,
even volunteering to read for the open mic. It was my first taste of Houston’s literary community, and I haven’t been the same since.
It’s May 2018 and my time with Glass Mountain has ended. I’m leaving behind friends, mentors and the magazine that’s been my home for two hectic years. Reading for a literary magazine has been an eye-opening experience, and I’m grateful to have gotten the chance to read a variety of work from writers brave enough to submit their work for strangers to judge. It’s been a pleasure working with Inprint, Gulf Coast, Writespace, and a ton of other Houston literary arts organizations. Glass Mountain will only continue to grow, and I’m honored to have been part of its journey. I can’t wait to find out what Kathy Hill, next year’s editor, and her team will do next. Thank you Analicia Sotelo, Dickson Lam and Daniel Peña for making the tenth anniversary of Boldface a memorable; thank you Josie Mitchell for providing honest, valuable guidance; thank you to everyone who trusted me to lead y’all; thank you for reciprocating my love for you tenfold.
Warmly,
Kim Coy, editor (2017–18)
