As spring returns and we see signs of life all around – flowers blooming, trees budding, small creatures coming out of winter naps – so, too, do we see Glass Mountain staffers emerge from their reading holes, where they’ve been diligently going through all the excellent submissions to Volume 16. Now, the selections have been made and work is underway on putting the physical copy together. The issue should be ready to get in your hands, dear reader, by April 13th at Glass Mountain‘s Poetry and Prose Reading at the University of Houston. More details on that event will be coming soon.
Speaking of readings, Wednesday night was Glass Mountain‘s second reading of the semester, held at Cafe Brasil, a long-time friend of the magazine. We were honored to host the creative stylings of poet Conor Bracken and fiction writer Josephine Mitchell, both graduate students in the Creative Writing Program at UH. The open mic that followed was a success as well, with more voices than ever coming out to share their work. We look forward to more great events and hope to see these bold individuals again at our next reading along with some new faces.
The next event coming up for the magazine is a small tabling next Monday, March 28th. Issues will be for sale at our table in the Student Center South, from 11am to 2pm. Remember, issues that are bought in person are discounted from the $10 online price. Stop by to pick up a copy (or two!), get more information on the magazine and our events, and possibly pick up some goodies. Following that, Glass Mountain will be headed to Los Angeles for the AWP Conference. We’ll be back the first week of April with details on our next craft talk.
